Description:
'This area was originally a pit village called Radford Woodhouse, known as 'Soddam'. Apparently visitors only ever went 'Over Soddam' though occasionally it was also called 'The Woodus. The families in this former pit village had many close family ties, some families kept chickens, some pigs, and all had kitchen gardens. There seemed to be very little money, but everything else was shared. People would go away on holiday, leaving the back door closed with only a latch (no locks) without a worry about safety.'
