Description: George L Roberts was an assistant at the Local History Library and a photographer. Many of his photographs now form part of the local studies collection. Lucy Edwards was the Local Studies Librarian (1958-73) at Nottingham Central Library. The accompanying newspaper article reads: The lifetime achievements of two pensioners have been honoured by Lord Mayor, Sylvia Parsons. Lucy Edwards and George Roberts began their library careers in the 1920s. And despite retiring in the 1970s, both are still actively pursuing their interests today. Lucy, 83, is heavily involved in studying the work of Lord Byron, and George, 89, is preparing a collection of photographs for St Ann's Library. Their enormous contribution to the City's library service was described as outstanding by Councillor Parsons, who presented them with inscribed tankards when they visited the Council House. Lucy, of Adbolton Grove, West Bridgford, started work at Nottingham Central Library in 1929. George, of Derby Road, Nottingham, Lenton, started his working life at the age of 14 as a library errand boy. Both are lifetime members of the public services union Unison.
