Description: Behind common lodging houses, No's 99 and 101, owned by the Corporation. Note the sink in the left foreground. This whole area was demolished in the late 1920's-early 30's. See NTGM000653 and ...654. All the houses were replaced by some of the first purpose built council houses. Narrow Marsh lay beneath the cliff on which stands the Lace Market. The area was notorious for its slum dwellings and outbreaks of cholera and other diseases. See this and NTGM001890 which shows the lack of sanitation and open drains.
