Description:
Looking north-west towards Woodborough Road, showing the new school (possibly Huntingdon Infant and Junior School). The industrial buildings in the background to the right were former lace factories. The photographer appears to have been standing on what following redevelopment became Abbotsford Drive with the site of the still to be constructed St Anns Inn in the foreground.
Picture the Past website contributor Terry Sleaford adds: 'The building in the mid-distance left of centre (with the ornate tower) is the old Baptist Church (designed by the architect Watson Fothergill) that stood on the corner of Alfred Street North and Woodborough Road. It survived the demolitions and still stands there today (2014). Interestingly, to say this photo is 1972, the old terraced houses (some of which were shops) can still be seen along the line of Woodborough Road. They were all demolished later of course'.
