The pub is names after Sir Colin Campbell (1792-1863) (subsequently Lord Clyde) who was a soldier of considerable experience from the Napoleonic to the Victorian period. He is most well known for his final relief and evacuation of the Lucknow Residency Garrison in India, November 1857.
