About this image
This shows pier construction over the River Leen, at the time of the building of the bridge over the L M S Railway (London, Midland and Scottish Railway) line, near Radford Road, New Basford. The brick structure in the middle of the river is one of the road bridge supports (see NTGM004736). Looking north towards the Church Street bridge and one of the gasometers of the Basford Gas Works (at this time the works' gasometers were dotted on Radford Road, Church Street and Vernon Road; the new road cut through the Gas Works yard, see NTGM004738). St Leodegarius' Church can be seen on the left.
