About this image
See also NTGM005979 for a picture of 'Cruck Cottage' as it was called, prior to demolition. The picture seen here shows the structure of the roof beams and reveals that, strictly speaking, the building was not built in true 'Cruck' style. To be called cruck-built, two usually slightly curved timbers form an A frame right down to the ground, supporting filled-in brickwork. It was the property of Stubbins (builder) and was formerly used as a tea house for visitors. (Clifton Village, Clifton Grove and the River Trent were once popular as a day excursion from Nottingham)
