Description:
The Bakersfield estate was developed in the 1930s with a mixture of private and council houses to the design of Nottingham Corporation architect T Cecil Howitt, a notable feature being the space allocated to gardens and other open spaces.
This view of Langdale Avenue is looking east from near the junction with Ashdale Road, the two nearest semi-detached blocks (preceding those with the mansard roofs) being Nos 26-32. While the footway is in place, the road itself has yet to be made up.
Picture the Past asks: We have a reference to Langdale Road originally being named Overdale Road, but cannot find any evidence to confirm this; there is an Overdale Road in Basford that looks to be of similar interwar date. Both roads had there present names by 1938. Can anyone comment?
