Description:
March Street from the Northern End. March Street was to the immediate east of Nottingham Castle towards the bottom of Walnut Tree Lane. It was named after the Earl of March, Roger Mortimer, who was involved with Queen Isabella, widow of Edward II to try and take the crown from Edward III. Mortimer and Isabella were captured from inside the castle by use of a secret passage, now known as Mortimer's hole. Isabella Street in the same area was likewise named (Information very kindly supplied by Brian Binns).
