Description:
On the Great Northern line. Used for race specials and horsebox traffic only. It is presumed that the cars on the platform are from 'Mick's Dismantling Yard', see also NTGM018586.
This platform was used to unload horses within The Hall sidings. (Source: The Great Northern Railway in the East Midlands by Alfred Henshaw). Racecourse station was further towards Nottingham, adjacent to Racecourse Road. The railway from Racecourse Road to the city boundary at Colwick has been replaced by Daleside Road East, following the same course, albeit using more land. The Hall sidings platform is still there.
The date originally provided here for the closure of Hall Sidings, 8th December 1959, is incorrect and is actually the closure date of the nearby Racecourse Station (mentioned above). The following information is very kindly supplied by website contributor Brian Pask: 'Hall Sidings only dealt with horsebox traffic and closed from 1st March 1954 (source: Clinker's Register of Closed Passenger Stations and Goods Depots; Avon Anglia, 1978, where it is referred to as Racecourse Sidings). Passenger traffic for the Racecourse was dealt with at the Racecourse Sation, which was last used on 8th December 1959'.
