Description:
Exterior view of St Michael's Church seen from the south-west. It is believed the first church here was founded during the reign if King Henry I (1100-35) and then extended in the mid-13th century. Further alterations occurred in the 15th century but by the 1800s the building was in a poor state and it was extensively rebuilt to the designs of Nottingham architect T C Hine, being opened in its new guise in 1860. The tower, prominent here, was largely new but re-used some medieval stone. Since the nave had been shortened by one bay as part of the rebuild, the tower was erected slightly to the east of the one it replaced.
