Description:
Off the West side of High Church Street. In the background is Mount Street. To the left (south end of High Church Street), is Beech Avenue where many of the Guy Birkin Lace factories sat. Behind the Terrace on Mount Street was the Cullen Papyrus Works. The building is still there and currently houses a college. The far end of the terrace was a wall (partly protected by a small garden area).. over the wall was a long drop down to another row of houses at right-angles to the terrace, which was adjacent to the Birmingham Waste Paper works. Many of the factories in the area suffered a similar fate. They burned down. The Guy Birkin factories on Beech Avenue, The Birmingham Waste Paper Co, and the Large lace factory that ran down Gladstone Street. Immediately to the right of the picture on the North side of the terrace was the High Church Street Methodist Chapel. Behind the camera viewing out from the terrace to the East, were the Beech Avenue Primary school and The St Augustine CE School and St Augustine Church. None of the original properties on the terrace side or the East side remain. The Schools, churches, housing and factories have all been demolished over time.
