'Isandula' is a mispelt angicised version of 'Isandhlwana', located in Natal in Southern Africa. The Anglo Zulu War of 1879 is one of the extraordinary periods of Victorian History. Lord Chelmsford's invasion of Zululand and the dynamic response of King Cetshwayo's impis resulted in the end of independence for the Zulu kingdom - but at a shocking cost to the British, and although many people are aware of the battle of Rorkes Drift - made famous by the film 'Zulu' starring Stanley Baker and Michael Caine - they are not as aware of the Battle of Isandhlwana, fought earlier on the same day, 22nd January 1879, where the Zulu Nation had a resounding temporary victory over British troops.
