Description: Taken from Wollaton Street showing Lambert's Factory at the end. Lambert's Factory was established by Richard Lambert in 1784 on the site of a former flour mill in Lowdham. It was when the business was later taken over by Lambert's three sons that it diversified into fancy hosiery and lace, with a new factory being established here in Nottingham. In August 1799, at the age of seven, Robert Blincoe left St. Pancras Workhouse, London and came to Lowdham to work in C. W. and F. Lambert's watermill making stockings and lace. It has often been rumoured that Blincoe was the inspiration for Dickens' book 'Oliver Twist'. On the right of the picture was the East Midlands Electricity Board Power Station. The 3 bus stops on the street served bus no's 1, 7, and 22. (The No 7 bus ran to the Adelphi in Bulwell.)
