Description: From the junction of Goldsmith St and Shakespeare St. The domed Italianate designed building with the clock on the right was the School of Art (built 1863-5) which was built to train young people in design, which it was thought to be useful to the hosiery and lace trades. The modern building on the right is part of what was Trent Polytechnic. Further on the right, up the street, is the Arboretum. The Arboretum was laid out by Samuel Curtis and was opened in 1852.
