Description: View of the north side of the road, showing a row of shops, including Mardsen's Store and the Fox and Grapes Public House. There is an article about this photograph by Stephen Best in the Sneinton Magazine (No 52 Autumn 1994) entitled, 'Southwell Road Twilight'. On the street corner after The Fox and Grapes the corner shop is Lancelot Chapmans Bakers where bread and cakes were sold having been made in their own bakery premises a couple of streets away. Lancelots wife Charlotte ran the shop and later the business was passed to their son, also Lancelot, and his wife Florence Grace. Both the Lancelots were Master Bakers. They had two children born at this address Ivy Chapman born in 1921 and Stanley Lancelot born 1922. Ivy Chapman went to the ragged school just off the Sneinton Market place.
