Description: Sneinton Market Place, showing the Palace Cinema in the centre, when you paid to go in you were given a metal disc of various shapes with a hole in the centre. The shape depended upon the price you paid and when you went into the picture house the usherette took your token and thread the disc on to a string. Thus a tally was kept on the numbers of tickets sold for each price range. Saturday tupenny rush was a favourite for all the local children, although it was best to sit up stairs because you didn't know what was going to land on your head. Sneinton Market was established around 1850 and there is still a very lively traditional market held every Monday and Saturday morning. This photograph is taken from Swann Scrapbook 1.
