Description: Armistice celebrations in Wollaton Village in 1918 or 1919. A group of children are standing by the village pump (with roofed shelter) in the square. The buildings around the square, including the Admiral Rodney Public House, have been decorated with bunting. The tower of St Leonard's Church can be seen in the background. The armistice that ended World War 1 was formally signed in Foch's railway carriage at 11 o'clock 11 November 1918. The armistice initially ran for 30 days but was regularly renewed until the formal peace treaty was signed at Versailles the following year. This is why many celebrations were held in 1919.
