Description: Armistice celebrations in Wollaton Square in 1918 or 1919. A group of village children have gathered around the village pump outside the Admiral Rodney Public House, to celebration the end of the First World War. The houses in the square have been decorated with flags and bunting. The armistice that ended World War 1 was formally signed in Foch's railway carriage at 11 o'clock 11 November 1918. The armistice initially ran for 30 days but was regularly renewed until the formal peace treaty was signed at Versailles the following year. This is why many celebrations were held in 1919.
