Description: The premises of W J and T Lambert on Talbot Street, under demolition. Lambert's Factory was established by Richard Lambert in 1784 on the site of a former flour mill in Lowdham. It was when the business was later taken over by Lambert's three sons that it diversified into fancy hosiery and lace, with a new factory being established here on Talbot Street in Nottingham. The Lambert's Factory employed a good deal of children from the workhouses, who provided cheap and expendable labour. In August 1799, at the age of seven, Robert Blincoe left St. Pancras Workhouse, London and came to Lowdham to work in C W and F Lambert's watermill making stockings and lace. It has often been rumoured that Blincoe was the inspiration for Dickens' book 'Oliver Twist'.
