Description: These almshouses were named after the Plumptre family, who came to Nottingham in the 13th century. In 1392, Plumptre Square was founded by John de Plumptre, who endowed it for the support of a Master, a Priest and thirteen poor Widows. In 1823, John Plumptre esq., the late Master, obtained an Act of Parliament to dispose of part of the trust property, and rebuilt the Hospital. These newer almshouses were built on Canal Street.
