Description: Plumptre's Hospital, one of the most ancient of Nottingham's charities. The name Plumptre derives from a Norman-Medieval Nottingham family. In 1392, Plumptre Square was founded by John de Plumptre, who endowed it for the support of a Master, a Priest and thirteen poor Widows. The Hospital consists of 13 dwellings. There are 30 out-pensioners of this charity. The present building occupies the site of the ancient one. Newer almshouses have also been built on Canal Street.
