Description: Located between Friar Lane, Park Street and Houndsgate, for 24 aged men and women, were founded in 1709 by Mr. Abel Collins, who bequeathed an estate for that purpose. In 1830 a block of buildings, in extension of the charity was built at the junction of Carrington Street with Grey Friar Gate, for an additional 20 inmates ( see NTGM003647). The almshouses were demolished June 1956, just before the time of the Maid Marian Way road development scheme.
