Description: Although titled Clifton Colliery, the photograph was taken looking eastwards from Radford Colliery. The houses in the background can still be seen on the east side of Bobbers Mill Road as it climbs uphill from the junction of Alfreton Road. The rest of the landscape has now been heavily built on. The miners are estimated to be working at a building some 200 feet North of the shaft. This is now a residential area between the Railway and the River Leen and is called Poulter Close. This area is much lower today, than when the photograph was taken, possibly due to the removal of spoil.
