Description: A surprisingly rural view of the area before the 'new' housing developments and 'Ring Road' came. This shows Section 3, during the building of the bridge over the L M S Railway (London, Midland and Scottish Railway, Radford and Trowell Branch) (Near today's Beechdale Baths). The railway line is also crossed by the colliery railway (Thomas North's colliery line), which conveyed coal from Babbington/Cinderhill collieries to Radford Wharf. This runs across the picture here and is distinguished by the gate across the track, crossing the main line (Trowell Cutoff) on the flat. See also NTGM001912, NTGM001813 and NTGM001913 for other views around this area at this time. The rows of terraced houses in the background would probably have been Gate Street.
