Description: The Severns Building was a public house, selling home brewed ales. The building is seen here in its original location, which today would be roughly near the Middle Pavement-Drury Hill entrance to Broadmarsh shopping centre, It then became a restaurant before its removal, to make way for the groundwork construction of the Broadmarsh Shopping Centre. The building had been added to many times over the years. (only the medieval part was moved and the rest demolished). The Severns is a 15th Century oakframed, 3-bay building, one of the few remaining Medieval buildings in Nottingham. John Cawley Limited were awarded the contract to dismantle, repair and re-erect the building half a mile away from it's original site to Castle Road. All members were individually numbered and transported to the machine shop for examination. Replacement oak members were machined and the frame re-assembled prior to refixing on site. (It's new location, next to the Castle, has made it accessible to visiting tourists. It is used as a lace centre, showing the history and development of Nottingham lace, and has lace items for sale.)
