Description:
Looking north-west from the corner of Hooton Street and Carlton Road - Linnell Street ascends to the right. This side of the school was the girls' and infants' entrance (dating from the time when the school was built in 1884; boys and girls had separate entrances). The ground floor was, at that time, allocated for 300 boys and the upper floor for 300 girls. See also NTGM005169.
The school closed in 1976 and a new Hogarth School was built on Porchester Road. Part of the old building was then used as a Hindu temple (as seen here) and the Carlton Road frontage was subsequently demolished to provide space for car parking.
Picture the Past website contributor Sheila Horton comments: 'I lived on Hogarth Street and I went to the Hogarth school from 1953 to 1961. It was a good school - happy days. It was a sad day when it closed.'
