Description: Bluebell Hill Schools, opened in 1883 by the Nottingham School Board, were situated at the junction of Bluebell Hill and Pym Street on the North side, and Pym Street and Sanderson Street on the South side. On the left (foreground) is shown the caretaker's house which was vacated in May 1973. In the centre of the picture is the Juniors entrance (gateway near the first car from the left). The notice on the lamppost warns of road closures in the area. The double storey building nearest the janitors house was the last classroom of the junior school before transfer to secondary education. It was divided by a sliding wooden partition into 2 classrooms each housing 55(!) pupils. As no assembly hall was available to the junior school it was often used for this purpose, after opening the partition.
