Walter Halls School was named after Alderman Walter Halls, who was Born in Tugby in Leicestershire in 1871. He started his working life at 14 in Tugby as a Ploughboy and continued as a Goods Yard Worker / Porter for 20 years. By the age of 22 he was married to his first wife, Jane. In 1901, aged 30, Walter lived in Leicester - formerly North Evington, Leicestershire, England, where he worked as a Railway Port Checker. In 1913, aged 42, Walter had moved to Nottingham. In 1929, aged 58, Walter remarried to Harriet Louise Hunt in Nottingham. In 1934, aged 63, Walter's career had progressed to Chairman of the City Education Committee in Nottingham. By 1937, aged 66, Walter was elected sheriff of Nottingham and by 1938 Walter was elected Lord Mayor Nottingham.
