Description: The Natwest bank was formerly the National Provincial bank. Before that it was Samuel Smith & Co (established c.1650s) of Nottingham. The bank amalgamated with National Provincial Bank of England (est. 1833) to form National Provincial & Union Bank of England in 1918, later known as National Provincial Bank. The National Westminster Bank (NWB) was created nationally in 1968 from the merger of National Provincial Bank and Westminster Bank.
