Description: This view shows the 'The Empress' pleasure boat at its landing stage on the north bank of the River Trent, looking upstream towards Trent Bridge. The steamer was lost at Dunkirk in 1940 (when many private vessels sailed to rescue soldiers in the relief of Dunkirk during the Second World War, and were sunk by enemy fire).
