Edward and John Turney founded the Tannery on the River Trent in 1881. Turney Brothers Limited produced 'Trent Bridge' willow calf which became famous as one of the first UK full chrome calf leathers produced in many colours for the ladies shoe trade. The lock on the right hand side of the photograph behind the boats shows the entry of the Nottingham Canal into the River Trent.
