Description:
This view shows a Sunday School walk. Every town that had churches used to have a Sunday School for local children. Every Whit Sunday all the Sunday Schools from every denomination used to parade through the towns with banners (like Trade Union banners) with the name of the church Sunday School thereon. Some churches with small children used to ride on a decorated lorry or float. After the parade the children went back to the church for tea.
This photograph is taken at the junction of Coventry Road and the lower end of Main Street, with the procession marching in the direction of the Market Place. The large building on the left is the Baptist chapel next to which is the Fire Station.
