Description: This is a view of Cavell-Curie residential block, looking south east. Queen's Medical Centre, University Hospital, affectionately known as Queen's to the people of Nottingham, welcomed its first patient in August 1978. The first purpose-built teaching hospital in the UK, it brings together patient care, teaching and research under one roof. Queen's replaced five hospitals - the General, the Women's, the Children's, the Eye and Harlow Wood Orthopaedic Hospital. Together they have a history of healthcare in the Nottingham area of more than 200 years. (information from www.qmc.nhs.uk)
