Description: Showing the original Talbot which was demolished by 1875. (A new Talbot opened in 1876, with the facade that can be seen today. It was sold at auction in 1929 to Yates' Wine Lodge.) J Page's haberdashery shop next to the Talbot is seen here with closure notices. The row was demolished for the widening of Sheep Lane (named after the flocks of sheep which drovers brought down to the cattle market which was once held on the Market Square). After widening, Sheep Lane was re-named Market Street. The landlord of the Talbot at this time was W C Cheatles.
