About this image
Showing market stalls and the old Exchange building prior to demolition. There is a banner along the front of this which is saying something (unclear) about... 'Buy Nottingham housing bonds and save the men who saved your home'..this is probably referring to the post war social concern for the lack of housing, particularly for soldiers who had returned from fighting in World War 1. The more usual slogan for this was 'Homes fit for heroes'. There is a gathering of people in the Market Place listening to a speaker, which again reminds us that this post-war period was a time of great social unrest.
