George, the second son of Edward VII and Alexandra of Denmark, was born at Marlborough House on 3rd June, 1865. He became king in 1910 (though coronation celebrations were held in 1911), and reigned throughout the First World War. George V died of influenza on 20th January, 1936, a year after his Silver Jubilee.
