Description: Designed by S S Rawlinson. The foundation stone for the chapel was laid on 29 October 1838. The chapel was designed to hold some sixteen hundred people, and cost £11,000 to construct. When this chapel was opened by the Rev. J. Beaumont a collection was taken which amounted to £642, an enormous sum of money in those days. William Booth, founder of the Salvation Army, was converted here in 1844. This view shows the south west aspect of the building. Later became the Co-operative Educational Centre.
