Description: Members of Nottingham Auto Club pictured at Spilsby having a picnic on the bonnet of a 12 h p Humber car. Thomas Humber, moved from Hull to Nottingham in 1854. the later William Camplain's Company (hosiery & sewing machine manufacturer) as Chief Blacksmith. By 1868 Humber had his own workshop, where he made 'spider' bicycles. He went into partnership with Marriot & then Cooper, the company moving to larger premises in Beeston in 1879. A factory in Coventry was opened in 1887. Thomas Humber retired in 1893. The Humberette car was made in 1909. By this time the Beeston factory had been closed, with manufacture of motor cars and bicycles at the Coventry Factory
