Description: Wallace Edwin Middleton (1878-1956) received his early professional training from Henri Louis Morel. In March 1901 he took over the tenancy of the studio at Bromley House where at first he was occupied with portraiture, theatrical and fashion work. He gradually came to realise that it would be to his advantage if he concentrated on technical assignments. He copied architectural drawings and began a professional association with engineers and builders; he also undertook other commercial work including photographing designs for the lace trade. Middleton's business continued to operate at Bromley House until April 1955. It was then transferred to new accommodation in Regent Street by which time, it was under the control of his son, John Edward Middleton (known as Jack) who had joined his father as a fourteen-year old assistant in 1925.
