Description: This location was used in Alan Sillitoe's book (1958) and film (1960) 'Saturday Night and Sunday Morning'. Alan Sillitoe's family lived off Salisbury Street, Radford on Beaconsfield Terrace and he drew on his own experiences of life in Nottingham for the story. His main character, Arthur Seaton, worked at the Raleigh factory opposite the family home. Karel Reisz, the film's director used many parts of Nottingham throughout to add realism to the film. Nottingham Canal, Wollaton to Trowell section, Balloon woods, on the western limit of the city, was where Arthur Seaton goes fishing.
