Description:
A scene of devastation during wholesale clearance of the St Anns area of Nottingham in the early 1970s. This view is looking south-west from Bangor Steet with Alfred Street North running from right to left across the picture. The large building - also later demolished - was a former lace factory. Heskey Street is alongside this with Huntingdon Street marked by the line of buildings in the far distance.
Subsequent redevelopment altered much of the earlier street pattern in this area and Bangor Street disappeared completely. The site of the factory later became Heskey Park and Play Area at the northern end of Heskey Close.
The building is the maltings belonging to Home Brewery. It stood on the corner of Heskey St and Harlaxton St. The road sloping down from right to left is Church St, which changed to Harlaxton St at the junction with Heskey St. Harlaxton St then ran down to Woodborough Rd. The photo is taken looking along Heskey St towards Huntingdon St (the line of buildings in the background).
