The end houses in all the terraces in Salisbury St were built right up to the Raleigh factory wall and apparently if you lived in one of these end houses, and you could hear the factory noises, particularly at night. Alan Sillitoe, the playwright of 'Saturday Night, Sunday Morning', lived in one of the houses near to Salisbury St.
