Description:
Kirkstead Street looking north-east towards Radford Road with the Hyson Green flats complex just visible in the distance. Bateman Street joins from the left, while a British Rail delivery van is on the right.
'Slum clearance' subsequently saw this area pulled down and both Bateman Street and Kirkstead Street largely disappeared, although a stub of the latter remained at the Radford Road end and Bateman Street was reincarnated as Bateman Gardens. In due course the Hyson Green flats were also demolished.
Picture the Past website contributor Vernon Mercer adds: 'The shop on the left was Mrs Roper's; the opposite corner was Sweet's Greengrocers.'
