Description:

Elm Avenue was developed as a public leisure space promenade (along with Corporation Oaks, Robin Hood Chase, Queen's Walk, The Arboretum, The Forest and Castle Grounds) after the 1845 Enclosure Act, because of concern about providing leisure interests and recreational walks for the working classes.
