Description:
After road widening and the demolition of the Walter Fountain. Also see image NTGM014350.
For images of the fountain see NTGM014345 and NTGM014347, amongst others, or do a search on our website. It was located at the junction of Greyfriar Gate, Lister Gate and Carrington Street.
Website contributor Brian Binns adds: 'The registration plate on the Standard 8/10 car in the foreground is STV [712] which was introduced in 1954. The extension to Woolworths involving the demolition of the warehouse next to The Sawyers Arms had not yet begun, so this dates the photo sometime between 1954 and 1959. Incidentally there is a photo taken in Lister Gate of the very same Nottingham City Transport mileage measuring vehicle following the same trolleybus published in the book 'Nottingham City Transport' by F P Groves. This bears the date 'mid 1950s'. These two photos must have been taken the same day.'
