Description: Sheep lane is now Market Street, looking towards Market Square. The scene here shows the houses on the right in the process of having been demolished to widen the road. The shop on the left was once called Parliament House, and also can be seen in NTGM004317. At this time it was run by William Haines, grocer and provision dealer. The building on the right was the White Hart pub on Parliament Street, run (according to the 1862 directory) by Mrs Martha Harrison, with the Bird in Hand, run by Mrs M Spafford, standing behind it. This same view can be seen in a photograph at NTGM002606
