Description:
In February 1859, the council agreed permission for a statue of Fergus O'Connor to be erected in the Arboretum. He had been leader of the Chartest movement which campaigned for electoral reform. A petition against this protested that there was nothing in his public characteror or principles to recommend it. He had also been elected as MP for Nottingham.
