Description:

The Guildhall was built in 1887-8 by Verity and Hunt in French Renaissance style, at a cost of £65,000.

See image NTGM009686, from 1884, which shows the original proposed design - the final building was built in a similiar style, but was smaller in scale.

This image shows the Guildhall decorated, possibly for the coronation of King George V in 1911.
