Description: Birthplace of Henry Kirke White who was a Nottingham poet who drew inspiration for much of his poetry from Wilford and Clifton, the most notable being his poem 'Clifton Grove'. He was born March 21st 1785 in Nottingham where the Exchange Walk Arcade now stands on Cheapside. He spent his formative years in his favourite places of Wilford and Clifton Village, and died in Cambridge on October 19th 1806. A small slate plaque marked the location, and was erected in the late 1800's. The building was demolished in 1926. William Kiddier (1860-1934) was born at Loughborough but spent almost the whole of his life in Nottingham. He was an artist, poet, writer and businessman, owning an old established brush making business on South Parade, Nottingham. He painted in oils, chiefly landscapes, also black and white drawings. He exhibited at the Royal Academy and at Nottingham Castle Art Gallery. He was a founder member and the first president of 'the Atelier Society' Nottingham in the early 1890's which ultimately became the Nottingham Society of Artists.
